A Peaceful Mind

For today’s blog I’m going to highlight an excerpt from this month’s BOM that discusses A Peaceful Mind and how it can generate power. As I continue the focus on keeping healthy as an entrepreneur, I will give you one of the advice use in the book “The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale.”

In chapter 2 Norman Vincent Peale writes, “A primary method for gaining a mind full of peace is to practice emptying the mind. At least twice a day, empty your mind of fears, hates, insecurities, regrets, and guilt feelings. To prevent unhappy thoughts from sneaking in again, immediately fill your mind with creative and healthy thoughts.” I also learned this lesson from one of my business mentors, Allison Phillips of www.greatsmallbusinessadvice.com. Allison use to tell me whenever I found myself thinking unhealthy thoughts to IMMEDIATELY counteract it with a positive thought(s) and SPEAK IT OUT LOUD. You may feel silly, but you will power through the negative thought(s) and feeling(s).

Dr. Peale continues by writing “at intervals during the day practice thinking a carefully selected series of peaceful thoughts. Let mental pictures of the most peaceful scenes you have ever witnessed pass across your mind, as, for example, the silvery light of the moon falling upon rippling waters, or the sea gently upon soft shores of sand. Such peaceful thought images will work upon your mind as a healing medicine.”

You’ll also find this as a great way to keep yourself from having doubts about your business if you counteract the, as Bonnie Pond of www.bonniepond.com would say, “stinky thinking” with some positive thinking! We all will experience some of the feelings above at some point or another during our lives and business, but if we get in the habit of replacing those thoughts and feelings with positive thinking we will find all will run even more smoothly in business as well as in our lives.

What is your mental picture?

Creating Your 2012 Business Vision and Plan

As I’m sitting here going through my end of year evaluation for my business, I’m making the necessary changes to my business model by writing out my business plan for 2012.

I realized that 2011 didn’t end the way I wanted, but I choose to celebrate those things that went right! Then find new and creative ways to make those things that didn’t go the way I planned go better for 2012.

Below are a few suggestions I have for you to make your 2012 business plan go better:

#1 – If you are not already doing it, create plans and systems for your business so that it can and will run more smoothly for you. If you’re like me and things doesn’t run as smooth as you like you will find yourself procrastinating and not accomplishing anything. If you put a plan in place in the beginning and tweak it as you go along you will find yourself working in a better frame of mind.

#2Break your plans and systems down to manageable tasks that way you will get them completed and not just have them sitting in your head and this will also help with the procrastination.

#3 Focus on those things that are working right in your business instead of focusing on what is wrong. Once your mindset is thinking on the good then working on those things that you want to improve will not seem so bad or difficult to achieve!

#4 – Choose to surround yourself with those that will honestly support your vision and help to hold you accountable for the things that you want to put into place in a supportive, but determined way.

#5 – Keep your “What do YOU Want” see blog post  http://giveyourselfpower.com/?p=464 vision on our board, on your computer in front of you where you can always see it which will allow you to stay motivated to achieve your goal. I found that when I didn’t keep my “What I want my life to look like” in front of me I lost track of why I chose to go into business for myself in the first place.

#6Speak to yourself and think about you and your business in a kind and successful way! Our mindset and words plays an important role in our business and our success. Don’t allow yourself to speak to YOU in a way that you would not allow others to speak to you. Know that you are worth every bit of success that you set for yourself and your business!

#7 – 2012 is a year to cut out and off some people. If you’re like me, and love to learn, you find yourself on anybody and everybody’s mailing list and signing up for all they have to offer and in the process you find yourself overwhelmed and/or overloaded and confusion as to where to start or who to listen to. I would advise you to cut your list down for this year to one or two mentors/business coaches so that you can focus on achieving your goals. As my momma say they have theirs what do you have?

You Can Do It

Vincent van Gogh said: “Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.”

We’re hearing about job losses and layoffs everyday and it can be very discouraging, but there is a silver lining in everything that seems so bad.  As I travel and stay in a lot in small towns/cities throughout the country and Canada I see a lot of small/one business owners making it work and helping to keep our country running. I’m reminded how this country was built on small/one business owners (True Entrepreneurs). It’s how we got our start and it’s what will continue to keep this country going. Remember that all large businesses had to start somewhere and most started out small. If they can do it so can you.  Just start small, keep your ideas and determination fresh and you’d be surprise as to where it leads you!
